  Quidway NetEngine 40E Core Router

The Quidway NetEngine 40E Terabit Switching Router (TSR) is oriented towards the IP/MPLS backbone, IP bearer network, Metro Ethernet and other large-scale IP/MPLS networks. As a Network Processor (NP) based core router, it adopts distributed forwarding architecture and non-block switching fabric, featuring carrier class reliability, wire-speed forwarding performance, excellent scalability and strong service capability. It is also the industry's first core router with built-in layer 2 bridging function and high port-density Ethernet interfaces, making it very suitable for constructing Wireless/NGN IP bearer networks. With NP powered packet forwarding engine, the NE40E can offer new services just by software upgrade.

Features

NP Based 5th Generation Router

The NE40E, as the 5th generation router, adopts Network Processor as the packet forwarding engine. With dozens of forwarding micro-engines, hardware co-processors and hardware accelerators, the Network Processor can provide functional flexibility along with high performance. Just by upgrading the micro code, the NP-based router can provide desirable new services. Thus, it enables rapid service delivery and helps to protect customers’ investment to the largest extent.

Strong Service Capability

The NE40E is designed on the basis of Huawei's multi-service Versatile Routing Platform (VRP). In comparison with its counterparts from other vendors, it is highly recognized for its strong service capability. It has built-in layer 2 bridging functions and supports high density and cost effective Ethernet line cards, has comprehensive MPLS VPN capabilities and can operate as both P and PE, has hierarchical QoS feature implemented and can guarantee QoS per user and per service, and supports large variety of IPv6 features and enables smooth migration from IPv4 to IPv6. With its strong service capability, as well as its high reliability, excellent scalability and maintainability, the NE40E offers an ideal platform for operators to construct next generation IP/MPLS backbones.

High Performance

The NE40E adopts distributed forwarding architecture and non-block switching fabric. Its line cards are equipped with powerful packet forwarding engine, dedicated Content Addressing Memory (TCAM), professional Traffic Management (TM) chipset. All these ensure the NE40E to have an outstanding performance, and it can achieve wire-speed packet forwarding for IPv4, IPv6, MPLS, even with QoS and other services enabled.

Carrier-class Reliability

The NE40E adopts carrier class design and the availability of the system can reach 99.999%. It has a passive backplane. All of the key parts such as main control board, switching fabric, power supply and fan, have redundant design and are all hot swappable. Besides, Huawei has implemented a large number of reliability features on the NE40E, including IP/LDP FRR, MPLS TE FRR, VPN FRR, MPLS OAM Tunnel Protection Group, BFD, RPR, RRPP, Enhanced VRRP, Non-stop forwarding, Graceful Restart, IGP Fast Convergence, Hot Patching, Ethernet Trunk, IP Trunk etc. All of these features enable Huawei to provide an end-to-end millisecond-level reliability solution.
