A: The AR19/29/49 series router is a brand new multi-service
integrated router series launched subsequent to the
AR series routers. It includes the three series of AR19,
AR29 and AR49, and the product portfolio is targeted
at a continuum from low end to high end. This product
can be used as carrier network or large network's edge
access, and branch or enterprise core router.

A: AR19/29/49 series router supports
the six new interface modules of ESM, DSIC, DMIM,
DFIC, VPM and VCPM. ESM Module: A built-in subcard
module applied on the mainboard and primarily
used for the IPSec encryption module. DSIC Module:Double
Smart Interface Card (DSIC) module which occupies
two-SIC-wide and one-SIC-high is mainly used for
9-port Ethernet switch module. DMIM Module:Double
Multiplex Interface Module (DMIM) which occupies
two-MIM-wide and two- MIM-high is mainly used
for 24- Ethernet switch module. DFIC Module:Double
Flexible Interface Card (DFIC) module which occupies
two-FIC-wide and one-FIC-high is mainly used for
24-port Ethernet switch module. Voice VPM and
VCPM Module:VCPM is the voice co-processor module,
and VPM is the voice processing module. AR19/29/49
series router is fully compatible with the SIC
interface module supported by AR 28-09/1x series
router; AR29-21/41 routers are partially compatible
with AR 28-3x/40/80 series routers supported MIM
interface module, with an effective protection
for user's investments. Meanwhile, AR19/29/49
series router supports 9-port DSIC interface card
and 24-port DMIM interface module as well as 24-port
DFIC interface card, with interface density significantly
boosted on top of existing products.
Q: Which aspects
of availability are enhanced on AR19/29/49 series
router?
A: AR19/29/49 series router enhance the equipment
and network availability in the following aspects:
1) Backup center and VRRP AR19/29/49 series router
provides the backup center and VRRP technology
to ensure delivering a backup solution when the
communications or devices break down. As a result,
it has ensured smooth data communications and
effectively boosted network robustness and availability.
The backup center supports backup load balancing
features. 2) Fully support external storage devices
such as CF card and USB flash memory. Use CF card
and USB flash memory for multiple system files
and configuration files storage to promote system

the forwarding capability than the former products.
In the meanwhile, CPU has a built-in hardware
encryption engine which has significantly improved
device encryption capability without the encryption
interface cards.
Q: What are the
VPM and VCPM? What features do they have?Which
voice features are available on AR19/29/49 series
router?
A: Voice processor module (VPM) supports voice
decoding large scale DSP array and is primarily
used for voice coding and decoding. Voice co-processor
module (VCPM) can be directly configured on the
control board and the multi-service board of AR19/29/49
series router and can also be installed on MIM
and FIC interface cards. It supports the following
features: 1) 2K?2K TDM local switching; 2) High-precision
synchronization phase lock of global clock; 3)
Fast data transit from SPI bus to memory bus which
can avoid from occupying CPU resources and significantly
enhance voice data processing performance. AR19/29/49
series router has full consideration for user's
practical networking needs, supports the leading
voice communications protocols such as H.323 and
SIP, provides extensive voice interface types,
and is capable of directly connecting to telephone,
electrograph and remote switches. As a result,
it has delivered top-quality voice and fax communications,
and can provide one-stage/two-stage dialing services.
AR19/29/49 series router can also interwork seamlessly
with other leading vendor's voice gateways and
thus effectively protect user's investment. Since
AR19/29/49 series router uses a scalable architecture,
the digital signal processor (DSP) resources are
allocated in a unified way and can be shared with
the voice interface module to significantly boost
DSP resource availability and increase access
density. At the same time, it provides the TDM
switching and realizes TDM switch for local users.

on the other hand, it keeps local call from occupying
DSP resources, and has thus saved DSP resources.

A: ESM is a built-in subcard, which does
not occupy host slots and can effectively promote
host security performance, while ensuring interface
density. AR19/29/49 series router currently supports
IPSec VPN ESM Module.
Q: Does AR19/29/49 series
router support IPv6? How to protect user's existing
network investments?
A: AR19/29/49 series router fully supports
IPv6 and IPv6 features. It is not only IPv6 Ready
but can realize actual IPv6 networking applications
as well. At present, it can realize IPv6-only
networking, IPv6 island networking with IPv4 networking,
IPv4 island networking with IPv6 networking, and
IPv4 and IPv6 interworking; Meanwhile, AR19/29/49
series router also supports dual stack and ensures
interwoking between IPv4-only devices and IPv6-only
devices in the same network. It supports multiple
tunneling technologies such as IPv6 over IPv4
GRE tunnel, IPv4 over IPv6 tunnel, 6 to 4 automatic
tunnel, IPv4 compatible automatic tunnel, and
ISATAP tunnel, and enables users to smoothly migrate
from IPV4 network to IPv6 network. As a result,
it can protect users' existing investment and
is compatible with existing IPv4 networks. Additionally,
AR19/29/49 series router also supports more IPv6

Q: AR19/29/49 series router
supports new storage medium CF card and USB interfaces.
Which areas can they be applied in?
A: CF card applications: AR19/29/49 series router
provides CF card in default as storage media to
replace FLASH storage media on the existing devices
in order to store the system file, configuration
file and system log file. CF card is scalable
up to 1G and can make log information more detailed
and comprehensive. Additionally, it also significantly
reduces hardware costs, while adding storage space.
USB interface applications: AR19/29/49 series
router supports USB interfaces, and the router
configuration file can be stored in USB flash
memory. After insert the USB flash memory storing
configuration file in router's USB interface,
the router can automatically access or retrieve
configuration file from USB flash memory so as
to upgrade router configuration file and update
router configuration automatically. As a result,
it is very practical to carry out "zero touch"
configuration deployment. This means that business
customers or telecom carriers can load the router's
bootstrap configuration file to USB flash memory.
With the help of bootstrap configuration file,
the remote station can establish connectivity
to the main station, then download the complete
configuration file and carry out router deployment,
thereby resulting in reduction in user's remote
deployment costs.

A: The AR19/29/49 series router is a brand new

access to PCs and voice terminals etc. by using
the layer 2 switch module on the AR routers. This
approach has saved the use of convergence switches,
and simplified the network architecture, while
reducing costs. An AR router supports up to 24-port
switch module, has the rich layer 2 features of
Ethernet switch, and realizes "routing and switching
unification" features, while delivering to users
a more flexible networking mode.
