Overview
The S9300 is a high-end Ethernet aggregation switch
developed by Huawei for the service-focused network.
The S9300 adopts the intelligent multi-layer switching
technology of Huawei. Besides the stable, reliable,
and secure Layer 2/Layer 3 switching services,
the S9300 provides the intelligent services such
as service flow analysis, complete QoS policies,
and controllable multicast. In addition, the S9300
provides high extensibility and reliability. Therefore,
it can be widely used on the IP MANs of carriers,
WANs and MANs of enterprises, egress, core layer,
and convergence layer of enterprise intranets,
desktop access with high-density GE interface
cards, and data centers. The S9300 helps carriers
and enterprises establish the service-focused
network platforms and provide end-to-end routing
and switching network services.
The S9300 has three types, which respectively
provide 5 slots, 8 slots, and 14 slots. It has
extensible switching capability and port density.
The three types of S9300s use universal modules
and components. This not only ensures the extensibility
of the equipment, but also protects the investments
of carriers. In addition, the S9300 adopts various
innovative energy saving technologies, which greatly
reduce the energy consumption and noise of the
equipment without affecting the performance and
stability of the system. By developing the S9300,
Huawei can provide solutions for sustainable development
of networks.
Product Characteristics
Innovative Triple-Plane Design
Based on the traditional data forwarding plane
and control plane, the S9300 realizes a triple-plane
design by adding an independent environment monitoring
plane. The S9300 uses an innovative environment
monitoring board to manage and monitor the boards,
fans, and power modules. The environment monitoring
board uses an independent central control chip,
whose intelligent property is possessed by Huawei,
to implement hardware-based power-saving functions
such as dynamic power adjustment by traffic, separate
fan control, intelligent fan speed adjustment,
and port hibernation. The system performance is
greatly improved and the power consumption of
the entire equipment is reduced. Working with
the network management system, the environment
monitoring board provides a visual management
environment for maintaining the S9300.

Versatile Multiservice Ethernet Switching
Platform
The S9300 has the industry-leading performance,
high port density, and high availability. It fully
supports services, including:
• The entire chassis supports a maximum of 576
GE ports or 144 10GE ports. It adopts the industry-leading
process design, optimized dimensions, and two-side
cabling. The cabinet of the S9300 supports high
port density: a maximum of 1728 GE ports or 432
10GE ports.
• The S9300 can aggregate traffic of DSLAMs and
implement uniform access through Ethernet interfaces.
Thus, user access can be implemented through optical
fibers. With the L2/L3 MPLS VPN functions, the
S9300 supports the MPLS, VPLS, HVPLS, and VLL.
Therefore, the S9300 can meet the access requirements
of VPN leased line for VIP customers and enterprise
VPN.
• The S9300 has a capability to copy multicast
packets between VLANs at the line speed on a full-load
interface. This enables access of a large number
of IPTV users. Through L2 and L3 multicast protocol,
the S9300 can function as the multicast replication
point and control point to provide IP multicast
video and audio services.
• The L3 multiprotocol feature meets the requirements
of traditional networks. It supports the large
routing tables of enterprise networks and carrier-class
networks. The S9300 supports IPv6 and provides
smooth migration solution from IPv4 to IPv6 on
the networks.
• The system can be expanded to support various
clock solutions, including the synchronization
Ethernet clock and clock synchronization defined
in IEEE 1588.
• The S9300 supports PoE, which meets the requirement
of Ethernet powering.
High Availability and Network Extensibility
• The availability of the S9300 is 99.999%, which
meets the requirement of carrier-class operation.
The key components of the S9300 include switching
routing unit, power modules, and fans, which support
hot swapping. The S9300 applies distributed hardware-based
forwarding, and separates the control plane from
the service plane.
• The service traffic can be switched between
the active components and standby components without
rebooting the equipment. In later versions, the
S9300 will support the smooth upgrade of ISSU
service to provide an application-service integrated
network. This can reduce the interruption of key
services.
• The S9300 supports the link aggregation feature
defined in IEEE 802.3ad, the IEEE 802.1s/w standard,
and the VRRP protocols. In addition, it supports
various millisecond switchover technologies, such
as RRPP, Smart Link, IP FRR, and TE FRR. The reliability
of data transmission is improved.
• The S9300 provides 3.3 ms hardware-based Ethernet
OAM function, which can quickly detect and locate
faults. By using the Ethernet OAM technology and
switchover technologies, the S9300 can provide
millisecond protection for networks.
Smooth Expansion
• The S9300 uses various service boards and flexible
service unit. In later versions, the S9300 will
support firewall, IPSec, IDS, Netstream and NAT.
• As a new generation Ethernet aggregation platform,
the S9300 meets the bandwidth requirement of the
metro backbone network and large-capacity Internet
data center (IDC). Each slot of the S9300 supports
a 12x10GE wire-speed line card and the entire
chassis provides a switching capacity of 2 Tbit/s
to ensure the access to the IDC and high-bandwidth
services such as IPTV. The system reserves switching
capacities for future upgrade and can be expanded
to provide 100GE switching capacity in the future.
• The switching capacity of the S9300 can be expanded
to 3.84 Tbit/s and the forwarding capability of
each slot can be expended to 480 Gbit/s. This
meets the bandwidth requirements in the future
3-5 years. The S9300 can expand bandwidth smoothly.
Six Innovations to Save Power
As a new generation switch, the S9300 adopts
the industry-leading technologies. It has large
forwarding capacity and uses the energy saving
schemes. The power consumption of the equipment
and the equipment room is reduced and the cost
on network maintenance is also reduced.
• Environment-friendly design: The S9300 uses
an intelligent chip to adjust the equipment power
according to the traffic, which can reduce equipment
power 8%.
• Revolving air flow: Revolving air flow of the
S9300 not only improves heat dissipation of the
equipment, which can reduce equipment power 3%,
but also facilitates six times cable-layout than
traditional switch in one cabinet.
• On-demand configuration of the power supply:
The power supply can be configured on demand to
reduce the investment in the early stage and lower
the power consumption 10%.
• Fan flexible controlling by position: Fans of
high-power line cards and low-power line cards
are controlled separately, which can reduce noise
10% and save power.
• Intelligent fuzzy fan speed-adaptation: The
rotation speed of fans can be adjusted flexibly
according to the temperature of key components
free from temperature disturbance. This technology
reduces equipment power 3% and extends the lifetime
of fans.
• Port hibernation: The port hibernation technology
enables the S9300 to adjust the output power according
to the traffic on a port, thus saving power 6%
without packet loss.
Excellent Security Design
The S9300 takes multiple security measures to
protect the data of Internet Service Provider
(ISP) networks and end users.
• The S9300 supports Authentication, Authorization
and Accounting (AAA). It performs AAA for access
users according to policies.
• The S9300 supports the encryption of routing
protocols, legal inspection, MAC address filtering
and dynamic ARP detection. It protects data for
service providers and end users.
• The S9300 uses 2-level CPU protection mechanism
and supports 1K queues for CPU. It separates the
data plane and the control plane, prevents DDoS
attack, prevents unauthorized access, and prevents
the overload of control plane. The S9300 provides
the industry-leading security functions. |
